School 7s: Sedbergh and Millfield drawn together at Worksop 7s

BECOME A PATRON

The majority of the weekend’s 7s will be taking place on Sunday but on Saturday Worksop College will host an exciting looking tournament.

Eight teams will be involved in this tightly packed and competitive tournament, though with their Schools Vase semi final against Samuel Whitbread coming up next week the host school, Worksop College, will not actually be involved.

The eight sides that are involved though are split into two groups of four, the top two from each heading into the Cup semi finals, with the bottom two going through to the Plate semi finals.

Group 1 looks as though it will attract most of the headlines though, featuring as it does two of the most successful school 7s sides in history, Sedbergh and Millfield.

Both have a ridiculous number of titles to their name, not just in history but in recent times too. Sedbergh are the reigning Rosslyn Park HSBC National School 7s champions, Millfield won as recently as last week at the Christ College Brecon 7s. The two are major rivals and find themselves drawn together in Group 1.

Alongside them are two sides that can also cause plenty of problems though, Queen Ethelburga’s and in particular Mount St Mary’s College, who have been impressive all season.

Group 2 features Leicester Tigers’ AASE side, Brooksby Melton College, a side packed with good players. Joining them are Pocklington, who always seem to impress, as well as Loughborough College and Welbeck.

With just eight teams it will be a short tournament on Saturday, but it looks as though there is no doubting either that it will be a top quality one too.
