U20 6 Nations: Scotland looking for first win as they name side for Wales

BECOME A PATRON

Scotland have made three changes to the side that lost to France in Round 3 of the U20 6 Nations as they named their team to take on Wales.

The Scots will be looking for their first victory of the campaign when they host Wales at Meggetland on Friday, 7.30pm, while the Welsh are two from three, having beaten Italy and England and lost to France.

Two of the changes for Scotland are in the centres, with Wasps’ Cameron Anderson returning from injury at outside centre, while Complutense Cisernos’ Robbie McCallum comes in at inside centre for the injured Grant Hughes.

They are two of six Scottish Exiles in the side, with the third change, Lions’ Kwagga van Niekerk at number 8, also an Exile. Joining van Niekerk in the back row are Heriot’s Charlie Jupp at 6 with Watsonians’ Connor Boyle captaining the side from the openside flank.

The second row sees Stirling County’s Cameron Henderson line up against another Exile in the form of Racing 92’s Ewan Johnson again, while in the front row Stirling County’s Murphy Walker and Ayr’s Euan McLaren prop down either side of the fifth Exile in the side, Ewan Ashman.

In the backs Glasgow Hawks’ Ross Thompson is again at stand off and vice captain, with Currie’s Roan Frostwick his half back partner. Outside McCallum and Anderson in the centres are the Heriot’s wingers Jack Blain and Rory McMichael, with the final Exile in the side at full back, Matt Davidson of London Scottish.

The bench sees two further Exiles selected, Cardiff Met University’s Will Hurd covers tighthead while Bristol Bears’ Nathan Chamberlain covers outside half. Glasgow Hawks’ Angus Fraser and Andrew Nimmo are the other two covering the front row, with Ross Bundy of Stirling County and Edinburgh Accies’ Jack Mann covering the rest of the pack. Watsonians’ Murray Scott is the reserve scrum half, with Ayr’s Ollie Smith coming on in the outside back.

Speaking to www.scottishrugby.org ahead of the game, Scotland U20 Head Coach Carl Hogg said:

“I think there are aspects of our game that are really pleasing. When we get ball in hand, we are creating opportunities. We look very sharp and very clinical, which is really pleasing. The key challenge for us, as we’ve discussed all week, is making sure we perform consistently under pressure. And that’s the key for a full 80-minute performance.”

“There have been huge improvements made over the first three games, but international rugby is about performing under pressure, so we’re looking forward to continuing our development this Friday night against Wales.”
