Durbanville’s Huygen suspended following steroids allegations

Durbanville director of rugby Shaun Huygen has been suspended pending an investigation after accusations surfaced that he was providing anabolic steroids to rugby players at the school.

A statement was issued by a player who it has been said matriculated in 2018 whereby he stated that Huygen had helped him inject the illegal substances. Said ex-pupil went on to say that Huygen never sold him any illegal substances nor did he provide him with any.

Asked for comment Huygen denied all accusations and said he would wait until the investigation had ended before releasing a formal statement.

Steroids use has become a major problem in South African youth rugby with six players testing positive for performance enhancers at last years Craven Week.
