School season kicks off with the Esher President’s Cup

The entry list is strong entry for Esher President’s Cup on Friday.

With schools completing their pre-season training, there is the usual series of “friendly” tournaments scheduled. One of the longest established of these is the Esher President’s Cup. This usually comprises teams from Surrey / South-West London schools, but with a few strong sides from outside the region often providing additional spice, with the likes of RGS High Wycombe having taken part. Last year Millfield made their debut in the tournament which was won by Whitgift in a thrilling final against Hampton.

The 2019 edition looks to offer the usual high quality, with Millfield returning and Harrow School and Wellington College joining the line-up alongside Surrey schools Emanuel, Trinity and Whitgift, as well as regular participants St Benedict’s. Play is due to get under way at 2.00pm with the final kicking off at 5.30pm.

So, there should be some excellent contests in prospect. Harrow have defeated Wellington the past two years, and any match-up between the two Croydon schools is always worth catching. There is the potential for a final between the current Champions Trophy and National Schools Cup winners.
