The AASE League is back in action again on Wednesday with another six fixtures to follow last week’s opening round.
Round 1 saw five out of the six games won by the home side, a trend that if it continues this week will see some big names tumble.
In the Northern Conference Gosforth Academy enter the fray for the first time after an opening round bye week. Renowned for playing some of the most attractive rugby in the country, they travel to a Bishop Burton College side that performed well in a tight opening round loss away at Oaklands College.
Oaklands meanwhile are on the road this week, heading to Moulton College. Moulton are already looking for a big confidence boosting performance after a tough opening round defeat to Stourport High School.
Stourport’s victory in that game means that their game against Brooksby Melton College on Wednesday is the only one in either conference to feature two sides that won last week. Brooksby Melton host this, a week after they were the only side to win away from home last time out, 27-3 at Myerscough College, whose turn it is for a bye this week.
In the Southern Conference new entrants City of Oxford College play their first AASE home game. After a tough opening experience against Hartpury College last time out, they now host a St Paul’s Catholic College side that impressed plenty of onlookers in their victory over Truro College last week.
Truro College meanwhile head back home where they will host the only side to win this league besides Hartpury, Exeter College. Exeter won a really hard fought contest last week when they narrowly beat Filton College 19-12.
SGS Filton College meanwhile are at home this week and they face a Beechen Cliff side that has been kept waiting since that loss in last year’s final to Hartpury. Sitting out last week, the Bath affiliates will doubtless be chomping at the bit ahead of this one and do not be surprised if they put in some impressive performances. Hartpury meanwhile have the bye in the south this week.
