After an exciting opening round of games the AASE League continued to offer plenty of exciting action in Round 2 on Wednesday.
Last week the home sides dominated with five wins out of six, but the away sides were on fire this week with four wins of from the six games.
In the Northern Conference 2017 finalists Gosforth Academy got off to a winning start after a bye last week as they beat Bishop Burton College 24-18, making it two tight losses in a row for Bishop Burton.
For Brooksby Melton College it is two strong wins in a row, last time out they were on form at Myerscough College, who had a bye this week, and this time around they were just outstanding for a 40-19 victory at home to a Stourport side that had got off to a winning start last week against Moulton College.
Sadly for Moulton it was a second big defeat in two games as they were kept scoreless by a brilliant Oaklands College performance. The Saracens affiliates won 43-0 to follow up last week’s victory over Bishop Burton.
Over in the Southern Conference new boys City of Oxford College were looking for a big bounce back after that heavy defeat last time out to Hartpury College, who had the bye this week. They improved vastly but still went down 27-12 at home to St Paul’s Catholic College, it was another good result for St Paul’s, who are now two from two.
Beechen Cliff reached last year’s final and this was their first AASE game since then after having a bye last week. They came up against a tough old SGS Filton College side though, who backed up a good performance in defeat to Exeter College last week to secure a superb 28-5 victory.
Exeter College, the 2017 champions, meanwhile made it two from two after they backed up their win over Filton with another good victory, this time 35-15 away from home at Truro College.
Coming Up
Next week sees the two sides with 2/2 records in the North go head to head, Oaklands and Brooksby Melton, at Oaklands, meanwhile in the South Exeter will look to go three from three as they host City of Oxford, while St Paul’s will have to play well to protect their 2/2 record when they host Hartpury College. Bishop Burton and Filton have bye weeks.
