AASE League: Round 3 Preview – Unbeaten sides go head to head

BECOME A PATRON

Round 3 of the AASE League takes place on Wednesday and with two rounds done and dusted, the patterns for the season are beginning to emerge.

At least two teams will lose their unbeaten records, with both conferences featuring a game between sides with a perfect record so far.

In the Northern Conference the key game looks as though it will be Brooksby Melton College’s trip to Oaklands College. Both sides have won their opening two games, Oaklands winning first at home to Bishop Burton before following that up with a big win at Moulton College. Brooksby Melton meanwhile won away at Myerscough in their opener before a good win over Stourport last week, setting up for a massive round 3 game on Wednesday.

Stourport meanwhile are at home to Myerscough College, who last week had a bye. That means that Myerscough go hunting for a first victory while Stourport have won one and lost one, they enjoyed a strong win over Moulton College in their first game.

Moulton have a chance to pick up a first win on Wednesday after two tough defeats, but they travel to a Gosforth Academy side that will be full of beans after a gritty win at Bishop Burton College last time out, who this week have a bye week.

Over in the Southern Conference the big one is surely Hartpury College’s trip to St Paul’s Catholic College. St Paul’s have won two from two, beating Truro College and City of Oxford College, but this will be a bigger challenge. Hartpury had a bye week last week but in their opener against City of Oxford College they were sensational, scoring nearly seventy points. It ought to be a key game.

Beechen Cliff are at home and in search of a first victory. Last year’s finalists had a bye in the opening week before a defeat to SGS Filton College last week, Filton have the bye this week. They host a Truro College side that are also searching for a first victory though, having been beaten by St Paul’s and Exeter College.

Exeter College meanwhile go in search of a third win from three, having beaten Truro and Filton in the opening two weeks. They face the newcomers, City of Oxford, who have had a tough start but showed real improvement from week one to week two, similar improvement this week could make for a very exciting game.
