U18 Schools Vase: Round 3 Preview – Exciting week ahead

The U18 Schools Vase is in full flow now, with the third round beginning this week across the country.


There are still some catch up games to be played from the second round, but there is plenty of third round action too. There is also Schools Cup, Schools Plate, and Schools Vase action on this week and you can see our previews for the action in those competitions via the links below.

There are a couple of second round games to catch up on from the second round in North A in the form of Newcastle School for Boys v Emmanuel College and Runshaw College v Sandbach. Newcastle School for Boys host Emmanuel College a week on Wednesday, and the winners will then be hosting KES Morpeth. By the time that game takes place, the two sides will know their fourth round opponent as Austin Friars welcome Gateshead College this Wednesday. The winner of Runshaw v Sandbach meanwhile will travel to Crossley Heath next for their third round game, where the winner will travel to either Ripon Grammar or Ilkley Grammar, who should meet this week.

North B appears to be a bit of a distance behind, with four games either yet to be played or with the results yet to be declared. However one third round game has taken place, Newcastle Under Lyme defeating St Joseph’s College 29-14. They have a bit of a wait to find out who they will be hosting though. Shrewsbury beat Bishop Heber in Round 2 but still await a winner from Liverpool College v St Anselm’s College to discover their third round opponent. Similarly Bolton had a second round bye but are still waiting on the King William’s v Altrincham Grammar result in order to find out their opponent.

Leicester Grammar School are already through to the fourth round in Midlands A after a 22-0 win over Wellingborough. They will travel to either KES Aston or Loughborough College, who should hopefully meet this week. On Wednesday RGS Worcester host KES Stratford in what promises to be an excellent tie. The winner can then put their feet up and await the result of Bablake v Queen Mary’s Grammar School on Wednesday 16th.

On Tuesday in Midlands B Langley host Ipswich, the two also played on Saturday with Langley taking the win, so they will feel confident. Whoever wins has a bit of a wait to see who the will travel to in round four though, Hills Road and Hitchingbrooke’s second round game is yet to come through and the winner of that must then host Gresham’s in round 3. Aylesbury Grammar are in a similar position to Gresham’s, awaiting the outcome of Sir John Lawes v Beaumont to find out their third round opponent. The Perse v Hitchin Boys is confirmed as a third round game, hopefully taking place this week.

There are two confirmed third round games in London & South East A on Wednesday, Isleworth & Syon v Glyn and Richard Collyer v Eastbourne College. The winner of the Richard Collyer v Eastbourne game will then face the winner of Harris City Academy v Reigate Grammar, which as yet does not have a date. It is a longer wait for Isleworth & Syon or Glyn through, they must wait for the winner of the second round Tring v John Hampden game to then play QES Barnet to find out their fourth round opponent.

All four third round fixture in London & South East B are confirmed! On Wednesday Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar host Sutton Valence and St Lawrence College host Duke of York’s Royal Military School. The winners of those two games meet in the fourth round. Round 3 in South West A kicks off on Tuesday when former Cup champions St Peter’s Gloucester host Wycliffe College. The winner will then face either Tewkesbury or The Cotswold in round 4, though a date is yet to be confirmed for that third round fixture. The next action in the section is then on Thursday when Wellington College host Thomas Hardye. The winners of that one may have a bit of a wait afterwards though with both second round fixtures still to be played before the confirmation of the other two third round school.
