U18

The U18 Cup final will be the big showpiece event, kicking off at 6pm. Stewart’s Melville and George Watson’s College will go head to head and it should be an epic contest between two sides that have proven over the course of the year to be absolutely outstanding.

Stewart’s Melville have lost just twice all season, to RGS Newcastle and then by just a point to Merchiston Castle. George Watson’s College have lost just once, but that result could perhaps be one of the key games in the build up to this final for it came against Stewart’s Melville themselves just a few weeks ago. Stewart’s Melville were outstanding, earning a 44-19 victory.

It should be an epic contest between two sides that have been utterly brilliant both in and out of the Cup this year. For George Watson’s it is a first return to the Cup final since they won the fourth of their four in a row in 2015, for Stewart’s Melville a first final since they won the title a year later.

It should come as no surprise that these two have reached the final though, George Watson’s have won the last two U16 titles and those players are now in their 1st XV, while Stewart’s Melville reached the 2017/18 final, those players are now their senior players. Perhaps that 2017/18 final could hold they key here though, in that game George Watson’s won 64-19, could history repeat itself?

Last year it was Merchiston Castle that claimed the U18 Cup title, this year they compete in the U18 Shield final at 2pm against George Heriot’s, the first of the U18 games at BT Murrayfield.

Over at Oriam Gordonstoun take on Earlston High at 1.30pm in the U18 Plate, while in the U18 Bowl Hutcheson’s Grammar take on either Hawick High or Jed Grammar.

U16

The U16 Cup final sees Dollar Academy and Merchiston Castle take each other on in a repeat of the 2014/15 U16 Cup Final, where Merchiston claimed the title in one of the most exciting finals across either age groups, winning 25-24. This games is sandwiched between the U18 Shield and U18 Cup, kicking off at 4.15pm.

The day’s action at BT Murrayfield will kick off at 1.30pm when Queen Victoria School and Royal High School take each other on in the U16 Plate final.

The U16 Shield final is the senior U16 game at Oriam, it kicks off at 11.45am, with Hutchesons’ Grammar taking on Dunbar Grammar. Meanwhile at 11am the U16 Bowl takes place, with Morrison’s Academy taking on Hawick High.
