After the hectic nature of the last midweek round of games with the various key knockout games, this one was a little quieter.
Nevertheless there was some fantastic rugby on offer as teams looked to squeeze in one last fixture ahead of the Christmas break.
Tuesday
In the howling wind and driving rain at St Albans RFC on Tuesday evening, Skinners’ dug deep for a 15-5 victory over St Albans, a fantastic victory given the conditions. Meanwhile Stamford went way to Leicester Grammar and came away with a superb 48-12 victory.
The key game on Tuesday though was King’s Ely hosting Woodbridge. King’s Ely headed into the game with a perfect record, so the pressure was on to get the job done and seal that ultimate prize in schoolboy rugby, the unbeaten season. Under that weight of pressure they were simply phenomenal. Sealing a stunning 64-10 victory to complete a momentous season, a truly epic achievement.
Warwick meanwhile hosted Australian tourists King’s Paramatta, though the result was not announced.
Wednesday
Wednesday saw plenty of County Cup action, not least a thrilling victory for Peter Symonds’ College over Churcher’s College, 38-29. Elsewhere Lord Wandsworth College sealed a 44-15 victory against Brockenhurst College, at Waterloo RFC St Mary’s College secured an impressive 14-3 victory over Merchant Taylors’.
Elsewhere Oakham finished off their season in stunning style against a St Peter’s York side that has had some outstanding results this year Their 43-7 victory will send them into the Christmas break on a real high.
Elsewhere there were victories for QES Kirkby Lonsdale, The Crypt, aand Dam Alice Owens, while Christ’s Hospital secured a thumping finale to their season, 60-5 against The Cedars.
Denstone College enjoyed yet another superb victory, this time a 39-0 effort to round off their season against Australian tourists Ipswich Grammar. Elsewhere KES Southampton sealed a 25-17 victory over Barton Peveril, with King’s Gloucester 27-0 victors over Beaufort Academy, and Dover Grammar securing a narrow victory at Sir Roger Manwood’s.
One of the key games of the week took place at Macclesfield RFC, where King’s Macclesfield put in a real shift to secure a 15-0 victory over Lymm High School. Ilkley Grammar meanwhile secured a 43-5 victory over the Woodhouse Grove 2nd XV, while in the south east Judd and Cranbrook drew 7-7.
Edinburgh Academy welcomed Durham to Scotland and the hosts enjoyed a victory for the north side of the border with a 24-8 win, while Strathallan won a high scoring contest against Dundee High School, 60-29.
Back in England Old Swinford Hopsital won a tight game against rivals King’s Worcester, 24-15, while there were also victories for Kenilworth and RGS High Wycombe’s 2nd XV. Meanwhile Windsor Boys enjoyed a big victory in their final game, 43-5 over Claires Court. Magdalen College also sealed a signature victory to finish off their term, beating St Benedict’s 18-0
Thursday
Thursday saw Woodhouse Grove and Truro meet at Yarnbury RFC to play for the Crewes Trophy. On the night it was Woodhouse Grove that were the side on song, securing a superb 39-5 victory to finish off the season on a real high.

Mount Kelly’s Irish tour began well, they beat Instonians RFC 33-7, while back in England Beechen Cliff enjoyed a very strong 47-7 victory over Colston’s. Meanwhile King’s Paramatta were on their second game of the week, the Australian tourists took on the Champions Trophy and St Joseph’s Festival champions, Wellington College. The result has not been declared, but it was certainly a superb occasion for schools rugby.
