This weekend sees some exciting schools rugby lined up, including the first big tournament of the 7s season.
With games on Friday night, Saturday, and Sunday, it should be a brilliant weekend, with plenty to get excited about and some of the very best sides in the country in action.
Friday
Friday night lights return at Blackheath RFC when Chislehurst & Sidcup Grammar take on Beth’s Grammar in a game that should kick off the weekend in style.
Saturday
There are some seriously big sides in action on Saturday, among them Brighton College, who will host Judd. Judd lost out last week so will be looking to bounce back, while Brighton will be looking to build on a tight victory over Campion.
Campion meanwhile will be eager to get back to winning ways on Saturday but they face a tricky task on Saturday as they take on a side that has been utterly rampant since the Christmas break, Hampton, including a victory over Warwick last week.
Warwick are on the road again this week and with another tough fixture ahead as they face RGS High Wycombe, a side that have beaten the likes of Millfield and Brighton College at home already this season.
Lancaster RGS enjoyed an impressive win over QEGS Wakefield last week and they will be facing famous opposition again this weekend as they host a Manchester Grammar side that was in flying form again Crossley Heath. QEGS Wakefield, meanwhile will be searching for a good performance in response as they travel once again, this time to Altrincham Grammar School.
Elsewhere St George’s Harpenden are in action at Brentwood, while Loughborough Grammar School head to King Henry VIII, Coventry. John Fisher have been brilliant since the Christmas break and will be looking for further success on Saturday when they host Tiffin.
In Scotland there is plenty to keep an eye on, including one exciting cross-nation game as Stewart’s Melville welcome Northern Irishmen, Royal Belfast Academy. Elsewhere in Scotland Edinburgh Academy meet Glasgow counterparts, Glasgow Academy, while Dundee High School host Bell Baxter. Meanwhile the excellent Dollar Academy will be hosting St Aloysius’ College, with George Heriot’s in action at Hutchesons’ Grammar, and Kelvinside Academy welcome St Columba’s.
Back in England King’s Macclesfield travel to Wirral Grammar in what promises to be a superb game of rugby, both have had some excellent results so far this season. As have Mount St Mary’s College and St Ambrose College, who also meet on Saturday in another game that should be a fantastic contest, while further south KES Birmingham travel to Bablake.
Sunday
Sunday sees the 7s season start to kick into gear as Seaford College host the Seaford 7s. Sixteen teams will be in attendance, with Dulwich College looking to retain the title they won in such style last year. It is the first big competitive 7s tournament of the season ahead of a host of tournaments next week, including the Shiplake 7s and South Coast 7s.
Millfield are also hosting a 7s tournament on Sunday, although it is more of a pre-season tournament with scores and results not being recorded.
