There is plenty of exciting schools rugby looming this week as the shortened format season starts to take over, though there is still plenty of fifteen-a-side action too.
The week will see 15s, 10s, and 7s all take place in a busy schedule before the big 7s tournaments start to approach thick and fast over the weekend.
15s
Argentine side Belgrano RFC are on tour in Scotland this week, on Tuesday they are in action against Stewart’s Melville, while on Wednesday they will face another of Scotland’s strongest sides, Dollar Academy.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, there are a number of games to keep an eye on, not least Isleworth & Syon’s trip to Tiffin, where the away side look to make it twelve victories from thirteen games this season.
Manchester Grammar will look to bounce back from defeat to Lancaster RGS over the weekend then they travel to St Anselm’s College, while Wilmslow High School are in action away to Queen Ethelburga’s.
In Wales St David’s welcome Oswestry across the border, while in an all Welsh clash Christ College Brecon host Ysgol Gyfun Plasmawr.
Back in England there are plenty of games in the South East Wallington County Grammar hosting Wilson’s, Richard Hale welcoming Oaklands College, and St James’ travelling to Latymer Upper. Meanwhile City of London Freemen’s host Harrodian and King John host Davenant, Langley Park will be in action in a good looking contest at home to Maidstone Grammar.
Elsewhere there is a fun looking contest in the North East as Newcastle-Under-Lyme School and Newcastle-Under-Lyme College go head to head, meanwhile King Henry VIII, Coventry will host Shrewsbury.
Thursday also sees some action, with Cardinal Newman welcoming Lancing College.
7s
There is plenty of 7s action on Wednesday too, St Albans get their 7s season started by hosting a small midweek tournament, while a number of stand alone games are also taking place.
Gordon’s reached the final of the Seaford 7s on Sunday and on Wednesday they will train with and play against Churcher’s College as both gear up for further tests in the coming weeks.
Also in action in 7s warm ups are Denstone College, who surely have high hopes after a strong 15s season, they head to take on Nottingham High School. Wednesday will also see former Rosslyn Park HSBC National School 7s U18 Festival champions, Stowe, take on Magdalen College.
Meanwhile Bradford Grammar School are hosting a triangular set of games on Wednesday afternoon, and with a busy 7s schedule to come it should be an ideal warm up.
10s
Wednesday also sees some 10s action, with Mount Kelly hosting a twelve team tournament that includes the likes of Millfield and King’s College Taunton, among others. You can see our preview of that tournament here: Mount Kelly 10s.
