School 7s: Reed’s 7s Draw & Preview

Reed’s will host their annual Reed’s 7s this Sunday, with the 7s season finally managing to pick up after a stuttering, weather-affected, start.

There will be eight teams in attendance, split into two groups of four. Following the group stage each team will play their counterpart from the other group in a final, so the two top teams will play the Cup final, second the Plate, third the Bowl, and fourth the Shield.

Norwich won the title last year but will not be back this year as they are at the Wisbech Grammar 7s, however the side that they beat 21-14 in that final, The Oratory, are.

The Oratory are in Group B, where the will be up against last year’s Shield winners, New Hall, who beat the hosts in that final. Alongside those two are Emanuel and Eastbourne College, making for an incredibly competitive group.

Over in Group 1 are the hosts, Reed’s, and they will be aiming to make a real mark at home on Sunday. Up against them are the reigning Bowl champions, Reading Blue Coat, who showed real form on Wednesday to win the Society of Heads 7s, a victory that must make them among the favourites on Sunday. Joining those two are Kent College and Pangbourne College, setting up for an exciting group phase of this competition that really looks as though it is going to be very open indeed.
