School 7s: Wisbech 7s Draw & Preview

Sunday sees Wisbech Grammar School host their annual Wisbech 7s as the 7s season finally kicks into gear.

The Norfolk side are actually chasing back to back titles having beaten Norwich 17-12 in last year’s final, and the two are drawn together in the same group this year.

In total there are eight teams in the competition, split into two groups of four. The top two from each group heading to the Cup semi finals, with the bottom two heading to the Plate semi finals.

Wisbech and Norwich will meet in the group, but of course could repeat last year’s final if they both finish in the top two, and joining them in Group 1 are King’s Ely and Ratcliffe College, making for a competitive Group.

Group 2 looks fierce, the cancellation of the Worth 7s left Felsted available to attend and surely makes them one of the big favourites here at the Wisbech 7s now. Alongside them though are Langley, who narrowly lost in their U18 Schools Vase semi final to Newcastle School for Boys on Wednesday.

Linking up with Felsted and Langley are Wellingborough and Culford, who lost out to Ipswich in last year’s Plate final, but their fellow Suffolk side are absent this year.

It should be a great chance for all eight sides to finally get some decent 7s under their belts after a stuttering start across the country to the 7s season.
