Alred Trophy 2022: UK’s biggest rugby kicking competition vies schools & clubs chance to host qualifying rounds

The Alred Trophy is set to ‘kick on’ and evolve further in 2022, providing schools and clubs around the country the opportunity to host their own official Alred Trophy qualifying rounds.

The Alred Trophy is a yearly competition in which School Of Kicking undergo a global search for the best U18 kickers in the world.

The competition is designed and spearheaded by world renowned kicking coach Dave Alred. Someone who has worked with the likes of Jonny Wilkinson, Jonny Sexton and Stuart Barnes, to name but a few.

In 2022, School Of Kicking are offering two options for schools and clubs in the UK and Ireland. This allows them to host their own qualifying rounds for the upcoming competition, with their two best kickers going through to the regional events.

Option 1: For the cost of £250, schools and clubs will receive an Alred Trophy competition pack in order to host their own event. This also includes social media coverage, target rings, Alred Trophy scoring charts, and stats on the SOK website.

Option 2: Alternatively, for £500, SOK will completely run and manage the delivery of the school/club’s qualifying tournament.

Jack Greig of Eastbourne College won the 2021 event

Former Exeter Chiefs player and head coach at SOK Tony Yapp said:

“The lack of competitive Rugby has been a major challenge for clubs and schools across the world during the pandemic.

“The Alred Trophy Qualifying Round provides them with a fun and covid safe activity for every member of the team that could be run over a number of weeks or in one day”

“The tests have been devised to make it easy for teachers and students to create their own internal competition and see who can kick it when it counts and win a place to represent their school or club at the regional finals”

The Alred Trophy has evolved year on year. 2021 saw the boys final being broadcast live in association with us here at NextGenXV (see below) as well as the addition of a girls only event.

This is the next big evolution in the global search for the best U18’s kicker and this is your chance to be a part of it!

Individual entry will still be open from December 2021 onwards, but it is hoped that schools and clubs grasp the opportunity to give their kickers a platform to showcase their talent.

If your club or school is interested in participating in this years’ event, then please forward on this information in order for them to book their place.
