“Churchie” are a well known and respected program within Australian schools rugby. The school has during their history managed to collect 16 GPS trophies placing them second on the all time list.

Since their inception in 1911 the school has produced 38 Australian schools players, 14 Under 20 internationals and 18 Wallabies, a proud record for any school. Recent graduates that you may know of include Quade Cooper, David Pocock and Liam Wright.

Keep a close eye on youngsters such as Angus Scott-Young and Harry Hockings who we feel may add to this list in the near future.

Another Australian school makes the list and yet another giant of the AAGPS competition, Newington have historically been one of the most competitive program’s in Australian schools rugby.

27 Under 18 internationals, 8 under 20 internationals and 28 Wallabies shows that the program certainly has teeth. 11 AAGPS titles further underlines their credentials and notable alumni include World Cup winners Phil Kearns and Nick Farr-Jones with recent Wallabies being Angus Bell and Allan Alaalatoa.

18. Christian Brothers College (Ireland)

The most successful program in the history of the Munster Schools Senior Cup CBC, Cork are a rare program that combines historical significance with modern day results, a more consistent program you are unlikely to find.

Their 31 Munster Schools titles as well as their production line showcase the brilliance of the program and thus far the school has managed to produce 63 Ireland Under 18 internationals, 8 under 20 internationals and 13 Senior Internationals according to our records.

Their most recent senior internationals are John Ryan and Billy Holland both of who made their full Irish debuts in 2016.

17. Scots College (Australia)

Historically speaking Scots were one of those programs that produced quality players in abundance but were unfortunate not to translate that into AAGPS titles.

Although boasting a proud history Scots really came into their own during the middle of the last decade where they produced some of the finest squads in recent memory, 5 titles on the trot from 2013 – 2017 showcases the improvement in the program and when one considers they have a grand total of 11 AAGPS titles it shows just what a corner was turned during the period.

48 Under 18 internationals, 10 Junior Wallabies and 24 Wallabies have been produced by the school since its founding in 1893.

16. Wellington College (New Zealand)

When it comes to rugby history there are very few schools who hold a candle to Wellington College in New Zealand, one of the few All Black conveyor belts in the country.

Although no national titles have been won by the school one has the feeling had the Top 4 existed in an earlier time you would have certainly seen Wellington College’s name up there on more than a few occasions. While they may have not been national champions just yet they have won 12 Wellington Premiership titles ahead of second place St Pats, Silverstream by 6.

Their production line is a proud one having produced 25 schools internationals, 8 under 20 internationals and 35 All Blacks so far in their history.

15. Paarl Boys (South Africa)

One of the top programs currently operating in South Africa, Paarl Boys are globally renowned for the strength of their program and continue to churn out top class talent to this day.

While they have historically lived in the shadow of their rivals Paarl Gim and Grey College the last decade has seen the school close the gap remarkably and are one of the few schools on the planet that have achieved 3 victories on the trot against Grey College.

Their teams in 1992, 2015, 2016 and 2017 were our unofficial national champions and so far the school has managed to produce 34 SA Schools players, 18 Junior Boks and 21 Springboks and judging by their recent graduates expect far more to be added to that list in the future.

14. Presentation Brothers (Ireland)

It tells you everything you need to know about the Cork derby when Christian Brothers are ranked 18th on our list and Presentation Brothers 14th, they level of competition between the two schools are intense but where Presentation Brothers have the edge is how many of their alumni made the transition from schools rugby to senior international rugby.

With 57 under 18 internationals, 13 Under 20 internationals and 15 senior internationals among those being Peter Stringer and Ronan O’Gara the Cork outfit continue to show just why they are such a highly rated program.

13. Gregory Terrace (Australia)

Another respected GPS program, Gregory Terrace have perhaps been living in the shadows of Nudgee College their arch rivals but none the less this is a program with a rich history.

6 GPS titles may indicate that the program hasn’t performed to optimal levels but the sheer dominance of Nudgee means that many GPS teams have over the years had to play second fiddle, however when you consider 33 Under 18 internationals, 11 Under 20 internationals and a whopping 35 Wallabies it is clear to see that the program certainly had depth to it.

12. Brisbane State (Australia)

The third most successful GPS school Brisbane State have been massive contributors to the Australian Under 18 team with a total of 62 boys having gone through the program. No slouches at Under 20 or senior international level with 12 and 20 players produced respectively it is clear that this is one of Australia’s top rugby nurseries.

Recent Wallaby graduates include Jordan Petaia (2020), Samu Kerevi (2016) and Matt Toomua (2013).

11. Southport School (Australia)

Our third GPS school on the trot and yet another school with an illustrious history, in terms of the modern game Southport School still pack a significant punch!

A total of 10 GPS titles have been bought back home to Southport with the most recent being a highly successful 2019 season.

Thus far a whopping 65 Australian Under 18 players have been produced with 15 Junior Wallabies and 19 Wallabies with the most recent senior international being Noah Lolesio who made his debut in 2020.
