Schools Rugby: Midweek Preview – More big games as 7s season nears ever closer

This week sees some fantastic games of school rugby coming up as we approach the final few weeks of fifteen-a-side rugby for most before the onset of the 7s season, for which many have begun training in earnest.

In the week that saw Berkhamsted receive the Daily Mail Trophy after their incredible exploits to win that title last term, there are some awesome fixtures ahead.

Plenty of those that are expected to compete hard on the 7s circuit are in action this week, among the Sir Thomas Rich’s who have a huge game away at Welsh giants Llandovery College, who are also likely to be a threat on the 7s field this season.

Staying in Wales there is a massive game between Bishop of Llandaff and Christ College, who are really impressing this year, while back across the border look out for Adams Grammar v Shrewsbury and KES Camp Hill hosting a strong Bishop Vesey’s Grammar.

Coventry College and Princethorpe College go head to head in a big encounter in the West Midlands, while also in action are Newcastle-Under-Lyme, they host Bishop Heber. Along the road Queen Mary’s Grammar take on KES Birmingham’s 2nd XV.

In the South West, meanwhile, Truro School head to Callywith College, and heading back towards London there is a County Cup game between Farnborough 6th form College and Lord Wandsworth College.

Further in and around the capital Tiffin and Glyn look set to have a cracking game of rugby, while Grey Court and Latymer Upper go head to head, and Saint Cecilia’s travel to Ibstock Place.

Fresh from victory away at Chislehurst and Sidcup, John Fisher are on the road again away at Wallington County Grammar, while local rivals Whitgift have their 3rd XV hosting Wilson’s. Meanwhile Beth’s Grammar are away at Oakwood Park.

In the evening it is off to Colchester RFC where St Joseph’s College and Bishop’s Stortford High School go head to head in what promises to be a very special occasion. Meanwhile further north Stamford are in unusual January action, they host Bourne Grammar.

The North West of the country rounds Wednesday’s fixtures off, Wilmslow High School have a massive game as they host what will be a strong Kirkham Grammar U17 side. Elsewhere Cheadle Hulme are in action against The Grange, and look out for Merchant Taylors’ v St Edward’s College, which ought to be an excellent game.

Onto Thursday and a quiet but exciting day, Marlborough College host Canford in what promises to be a very evenly matched contest, meanwhile Repton welcome Trent College and Stockport Grammar are in action against their local club side, Stockport RUFC.
