School 7s: Worth School 7s Draw & Preview

Along with tournaments at Colston’s, Oakham, and the North of England School 7s, Sunday also sees Worth School host their annual 7s competition.

It is a seriously strong field too, with some of the top teams in the country competing at both U18 and U16 level. The U18 tournament sees 20 teams involved, placed into four groups of five, while in the U16s there are 10 teams, split into two groups of five.

At U18 level the top teams in each group will play Cup semi finals, second will play in the Plate, third the Vase, fourth the Bowl, and 5th the Shield, while in the U16s the top two head to the Cup semis, third and fourth to the Plate, and last place go directly to the Vase final.

U18

In the U18s Brighton College are likely to be one of the key teams to watch, not just here but throughout the season. They are drawn in Group A alongside Lord Wandsworth College, The Oratory, and a Gordon’s side that could be very promising, plus a Caterham side who just missed out in Wednesday’s U18 Schools Plate semi final at KCS Wimbledon, highlights of which you can see below.

Over in Group B are Felsted, who gave a good showing in last week’s 7s, they are up against Hurstpierpoint, New Hall, and Dulwich College, who should have star man Zach Carr back, plus a Barbarian VII.

Group C contains Wellington College, who absolutely stormed to last week’s Gordon’s 7s title and will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday. Joining them are Reed’s, who hosted their own tournament last week, St Benedict’s, who could be a dangerous side, Reigate Grammar School, and Shiplake College, whose own 7s tournament, won by Wellington College, kicked the 7s season off in early February.

Group D contains the hosts, Worth, and they are drawn up against the other Barbarian VII, plus Sevenoaks, King’s Canterbury, and a St Paul’s side that could be a really promising 7s outfit.

U16

Over in the U16s Worth will be hosting things in Group A, where again they are alongside St Paul’s. Joining those two are Lord Wandsworth College, Caterham, and City of London Freemen’s, who are only entering a side at U16 level.

Group B sees Felsted and Hurstpierpoint College paired together are they are at U18 level, and alongside them are Reigate Grammar School and Sevenoaks, plus Emanuel who, like City of London Freemen’s, only have a side entered at U16 level.
