Among Wednesday many superb 7s tournament is a crucial one in the Midlands as Solihull School host the Solihull 7s.

It is a last big 7s run out for many of the sides involved in the build up to the Rosslyn Park HSBC National School 7s, and a chance to make a statement of intent ahead of it.

It promises to be a fantastic event, there are sixteen teams gathering at Solihull in total, divided into four groups of four with the top two from each heading to the Cup Quarter Finals and the bottom two to the Plate.

Bromsgrove are the reigning champions, although that stretches all the way back to 2019 as the previous two editions of the competition were lost to Covid. They were superb in that 2019 final though, beating Bloxham by a stunning 50-5 margin.

As such they are drawn in Group A alongside the hosts, Solihull, who are searching for a first title on home soil since 2014. Joining those two are RGS Worcester and St Peter’s Gloucester, who won the Plate back in 2013.

Over in Group B are KES Stratford, who last week hosted the Shakespeare 7s, which was, in fact, won by Bromsgrove. Joining them in Group B are KES Birmingham, Loughborough Grammar, and Trent College.

Group C meanwhile looks pretty loaded, featuring the 2012, 2015, and 2016 champions Warwick, plus 2019 Plate winners Stourport High School, who are playing great stuff as Worcester Warriors’ ACE side. Also in the group are 2013 champions King’s Worcester, plus a Monmouth side that has been absolutely fantastic this season and must be considered among the favourites.

So too must Group D’s Denstone College, who were absolutely magnificent en route to Sunday’s North of England School 7s final at Birkenhead Park. They may have missed out to Sedbergh, but if anything that will simply serve as motivation ahead of Wednesday afternoon. Joining them in Group D are Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School and Old Swinford Hospital, who won the Bowl at the North of England 7s, as well as Welsh side Coleg Llandrillo, who reached the final here in 2017.
