On Wednesday UWE Women will host Swansea Women in the BUCS Premier South Play Offs and NextGenXV will be live streaming it all from Lockleaze Sports Centre.
The game will be played in the memory of Maddy Lawrence, who sadly passed away on the 25th March. Maddy was a proud member of the UWE Women’s rugby set up, enjoying the sport on and off the pitch.
Celebrating Maddy will be the theme of the game, and money is being raised for a foundation in her name, supporting two areas that were so close to her heart, Women’s Rugby and Mental Health. Over £27,000 has already been raised in her memory and you can donate here:
The game itself will be available to watch both on our YouTube Channel, and in the embedded video below, kicking off at 4pm on Wednesday.
The winners will be in the Premier South next season, with Swansea hoping to stay in the league, and UWE looking for promotion from Western Tier 1. UWE’s season has been asonishing, going undefeated to date, winning the Western Tier 1 League, plus triumphing in the National Trophy, beating Lancaster Uni 32-5 in the final. They are now one step from the perfect season and promotion to the Southern Premier division.
From their point of view it would be the perfect way to celebrate the life of Maddy Lawrence, but for Swansea it will be all about celebrating her life by giving the very best of themselves to stay in this league.
It ought to be a fantastic game of rugby and you will be able to join us live for a 4pm kick off and don’t forget to check all the build up on the two sides respective Instagram pages too!
