St Johns have had a tough season but continue to play an entertaining brand of rugby that has gained them many admirers throughout the season.

Pretoria Boys were no doubt hot favourites on this occasion but St Johns executed their game plan perfectly and caused a massive upset that will long be remembered.

4. Clifton

Yet another appearance in this list in a season that continues to defy expectations, Clifton have achieved yet another first in their history this time and away win at St Davids.

This may not be one of the giants of school rugby but in terms of their program this season has no doubt provided a much needed boost for the KZN minnows. They have shown a team spirit and cohesion that previous teams could only dream of and all credit must go to the players and coaching staff.

While many schools rely on their history, Clifton is creating history!

3.Rondebosch

National ranking: 13 (+4)

Bosch continue to prove themselves the Winelands slayers having already beaten Paarl Boys against the odds, this time an unlikely victory over Paul Roos sees them shoot up the rankings and deservedly so.

The win over Paul Roos also ensured that there would be no Windelands clean sweep over the weekend with Paarl Boys, Paarl Gim and Boland Landbou securing wins over Wynberg, SACS and Bishops respectively.

One feels that with just a bit more consistency they could have easily been a Top 10 program this year, but time may still be on there side. The boys and coaching staff should be extremely proud of what has been an unforgettable season.

2. EG Jansen

It has been an extremely tough year for Jansies. The pandemic left the program reeling some what and putting together a competitive team was always going to be difficult, early season results certainly showed this but the team has found it’s form in the latter half of the season.

Helpmekaar were red hot favourites with our community giving them an 80% chance of victory in this fixture, but Jansies were not overawed by the occasion and delivered an outstanding performance securing a 26-12 win away from home.

1. Marlow

National Ranking: 28 (NEW)

Marlow has to be everyone’s favourite “small school” outfit this year, the boys have continually delivered far above expectations but this weekends result must have been especially satisfying for the Cradock Boys.

Hudson Park have beaten some top drawer teams this year, their brand of rugby has enthralled at times and many would have given them a strong chance against Marlow but the Cradock boys delivered a top class performance winning by an incredible 51-14 margin that send shockwaves through the school rugby community.
