Schools Rugby: NextGenXV Schools Rugby Table | Updated Standings & Big Climbers

Ranking Week 2 (1200 × 676px)

Last week we published the NextGenXV Schools Rugby Table for the first time and it’s time for an update this week as we expand out to look at 50 teams.

We will also highlight a few movers and shakers from outside of the Top 50, as there have been some amazing moves over the course of the season.

At the top end of the table, Denstone College’s 17-14 victory at Sedbergh had the biggest impact, moving Sedbergh off top spot and allowing Clifton College to take their place at the top of the table.

Incredibly though, Clifton are just a single point ahead of Trinity in second place meaning that if they were to play the system predict and Clifton an advantage of just 0.1% over Trinity. It’s tight as you like behind them too, Harrow in third are on 1,496, just three ahead of Millfield and Sedbergh on 1,493. So as it stands that massive Millfield v Sedbergh game in early December would be predicted to be a draw!

Denstone College’s reward for victory, on the other hand, seems a little scant, a rise of three places from 21 to 18. Although that does go to show just how tight things are as they are actually closer to the Top 10 than 10this to 6th, so if they keep their form up you can expect them to keep climbing.

Warwick’s consistency sees them climb into the Top 25, and Tonbridge continue to climb, closely followed by The Judd who’s pre-season rating is probably doing them a disservice overall. RGS Guildford can probably feel similarly aggrieved, while a couple of others probably still have an inflated position as a hangover from high expectation.

Outside of the Top 50, the biggest climber of the season has been Sandbach, leaping 82 places from their pre season rating. Claremont Fan Court and King’s Gloucester have each climbed over 60, while Wells Cathedral, Forest School, and KES Stratford have all climbed a long way too.

Hayes are up 41 from their pre-season rating, and ticking along very nicely, while Merchant Taylors’ Crosby, Reddam House, and Yarm have all risen over thirty places.

Looking back up towards the top end, look out for some key games that could impact things in the coming days; not least Clifton College v Wellington College on Saturday and Trinity v Hampton, as well as Hampton’s Cup game against Harrow on Wednesday. All could have a significant impact.
