The Quarter Final draws have been made for the U15 Schools Cup and Plate competitions after a long term of intense competition.
It all kicked off back in September with Round 1 of the Cup, with the winners in Round 1 progressing, and the losers heading to the opening round of the Plate. Now both competitions have drawn their quarter finals, to kick off after the Christmas break. The U15 Vase and Bowl quarter finals will be drawn at a later date, with the last 16 fixtures still to take place.
U15 Schools Cup Quarter Finals:
Oakham/Warwick v QEGS Wakefield
King’s Macclesfield v Northampton School for Boys
KCS Wimbledon v Canford
Ravens Wood v Clifton College
Up first is a potential classic, with former champions QEGS Wakefield heading to either Oakham or Warwick, both Cup legends. QEGS and Warwick have a long history, they are almost inextricably linked in this competition, competing in quarter finals, semi finals, and finals seemingly constantly, Oakham will be keen to make sure that doesn’t happen this year.
King’s Macclesfield’s U18s also reached the quarter finals, and their U15s will be hoping to go one better when they host a Northampton School for Boys side that have been in real stars in this tournament in recent times.
KCS Wimbledon beat a strong Epsom College side to reach the quarter finals and you can read our report here, KCS v Epsom, now they have another stern test as they host Canford, who knocked out the mighty Millfield in a classic clash in Round 3, 8-7.
On the round in the final quarter final are Clifton College, who have got past the likes of Radley College and Sir Thomas Rich’s, they head to Ravens Wood, who have had two really tight games in the last two rounds to get to this point.
U15 Schools Plate Quarter Finals
Lancaster RGS/Durham v Norwich
Cheadle Hulme v King’s Worcester
Exeter School v Berkhamsted
Abingdon v Brighton College
Over in the Plate the first quarter final has, like the Cup, a little bit of waiting, with Lancaster RGS and Durham still to play. The winners of it will be hosting Norwich, in a big away trip for the Norfolk side. In the other North/Midlands quarter final, Cheadle Hulme, who have oddly not actually had to play a game at this point, will host King’s Worcester, who have victories over Wrekin and Loughborough.
In the Southern side of the draw, Berkhamsted, who have flown along, will be travelling along to Exeter School, who have had some thrilling games en route to this point, including a 12-10 victory at Marlborough College in the last round. In the final game Abingdon, who have looked particularly impressive, will be hosting Brighton College, who have also been absolutely flying in this competition.
