BECOME A PATRON

This Sunday England take on Wales in a Women’s U18 international at Rugby School as part of the bicentenary celebrations.

Rugby Football turns 200 this year and Rugby School is hosting events throughout the year in celebration of that, beginning a couple of weeks ago with the Global Pass and including a hugely exciting International U18 7s tournament on the 25th and 26th March that will be live streamed here on NextGenXV.

Sunday’s U18 international will be on that same field on The Close at Rugby School, and ticket sale for the game (available here) will go towards the Injured Players Foundation and Rugby School’s 1823 Bursary, which offers means-tested places at Rugby School for boys or girls who show significant promise and aptitude for sport and a commitment to Rugby Football.

Head Coach James Cooper has named Burton hooker Lucy Calladine as his skipper for the 1pm kick off, with Medway’s Amelia Williams and Exeter College’s Lucy Ward propping either side of her.

Williams’ Medway teammate Jasmine Adonri is selected in the second row alongside Sandal’s Bridget Campbell, with Tynedale’s Anna Richardson, North Bristol’s Heidi Pashaei Tarighoun, and Wimbledon’s Annabel Meta in the back row.

Mansfield’s Evie Haskell is at scrum half with Reading’s Ella Cromack at fly half, a teammate of Adonri’s at Wasps. In the centres Meta’s Harlequins teammate Lauren Knowler of Guildfordians partners Shrewsbury’s Natalee Evans, a Worcester teammate of the skiiper Calladine.

The back three meanwhile sees the vice captain Daisy Aspinall of Burton selected on the right wing, she players with looeshead Williams at Gloucester Hartpury. On the left wing is Preston Grasshoppers’ Connie Clarke, and at full back is Reading’s Millie David and teammate of fly half Cromack at Reading, Wasps, and now England.

On the bench Basildon’s Keira Muir, Ivybridge’s Hannah Sams, and Liverpool St Helens’ Lucie Sams cover the front row, with Exeter College’s Kayleigh Priest and Hartpury College’s Sophie McQueen covering the rest of the pack. Dings Crusaders’ Lauren Bailey and Sophie Hopkins of Fullerians are also on the bench, as is Milly Pearce who, like Millie David and Ella Cromack, plays for Reading and Wasps.

Commenting ahead of the game, James Cooper said: “Congratulations to all players selected, especially those who’ve been picked for the first time – they’ve worked very hard to earn the right to pull on an England shirt. “

“This bicentenary match is a very important moment celebrating the game we all love, and so the 23 women wearing the rose on Sunday afternoon should savour what will be a highlight of their rugby journeys.“

“We’ve had great preparation in camp leading up to this match, and we’re now looking forward to taking on what I’m sure will be a strong Wales side in our first game of 2023.”
