Schools Rugby: Solihull School 7s | Draw & Preview

Wednesday sees Solihull host their annual 7s tournament, a key tournament as the road to Rosslyn Park draws ever nearer.

Most of the strongest sides in the region will be in attendance in what should be a fantastic afternoon of rugby.

There are sixteen sides competing in total, split into four groups of four, with the top two from each group heading to the Cup quarter finals and the bottom two to the Plate quarter finals.

Bromsgrove are the reigning champions, beating Monmouth 41-12 in last year’s final, and they are drawn this year in Group B. It will be a competitive group, with KES Stratford, KES Birmingham, and a Bedford Modern side enjoying their best season in years, who won the Plate in 2015, all joining them.

Monmouth are meanwhile in Group C, where the 2012, 2015, and 2016 champions Warwick will be joining them. Those two are incredibly strong sides, but look out too for Alcester Grammar and KES Camp Hill, who complete the group.

The hosts, Solihull, will be aiming for a first title since 2014 from Group A. Up against them are some strong sides though in the shape of St Peter’s Gloucester, Loughborough Grammar, and a very handy RGS Worcester side.

The group of death though is surely Group D, which features Denstone College, who have been magnificent this year, Welsh giants Coleg Llandrillo, a good Bishop Vesey’s Grammar side, and another of this year’s top performers, Old Swinford Hospital.

It is going to be a hugely competitive tournament, and for those coming out on top the signs of promise ahead of Rosslyn Park are going to be massive.
