Schools Rugby: ACE League | Round 4 Preview

ACE Round 4 takes place on Wednesday, a week on from one of the great rounds of ACE action last time out.

Gordon’s made it three wins from three for their best ever ACE start, and in the process handed a 26-19 defeat to Hartpury College, the first ACE defeat for Hartpury since 2019. It was a huge moment for the Surrey side, one that truly announces them as a real contender this year.

For Hartpury College it will be frustrating, however they will know that they are still very much in contention and will likely be giving everything to demonstrate that this week.

Besides Gordon’s, only one other side remains unbeaten with three victories from three, Gosforth Academy, who have started the Northern Conference on fire.

Northern Conference

The Northern Conference sees Gosforth Academy look to maintain that unbeaten start when they host an Oaklands College side that had a bye last week after a fantastic victory over Myerscough College in Round 2, the same side that Gosforth travelled to last week for a 52-12 victory.

Myerscough College are back in action again this weekend and on the road against another side looking to bounce back from defeat last time out, Bishop Burton College, who travelled to Brooksby Melton College last week, going down 32-12.

Brooksby Melton College meanwhile look to build on that victory with a trip to Stourport High, who went down 31-7 to a very strong City of Oxford College side last time out, City of Oxford have a bye this week.

Southern Conference

Gordon’s will be looking to continue their incredible start with a trip to SGS Filton College, who are seeking a first victory after defeats to Hartpury College in Round 1 and Truro College last time out sandwiching a bye in Round 2. It will be one to keep a real eye on.

Meanwhile Hartpury College look to quickly bounce back from last week’s defeat to Gordon’s when they host Bishop Wand, who were involved in a thriller last weekend. They hosted Beechen Cliff and the two sides split 61 points, with the visitors running out the victors 33-28.

Beechen Cliff will be looking to back that one up on Wednesday when they host Exeter College, who will be looking to build on their Round 2 momentum where they had a tight victory over Bishop Wand, Round 3 was a bye week for them, Truro College have the bye this week.
