Schools Rugby: Midweek Preview | 16th-18th January

As the big freeze looms large, hardy schools rugby players continue to take to the field with a busy midweek of fixtures.

 

With fixtures across Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, there is plenty to get excited about including some 7s on Thursday and plenty of U17 action to go alongside the U18s.

 

Tuesday

 

Tuesday’s action is at Scotland’s Oriam training complex as in form Stewart’s Melville welcome Northern Ireland’s Campbell College for what should be a fantastic game and a brilliant occasion under the roof.

Wednesday

 

Wednesday sees some fantastic fixtures, not least at Sir Thomas Rich’s were they welcome Wales’ Whitchurch High School for what promises to be a highly competitive game – both have been superb this season. Over in Wales Christ College Brecon host invitational side Crawshay’s Welsh XV for what is always a special fixture. Meanwhile another Welsh giant, Glantaf, host English opposition in the form of St Peter’s Gloucester.

 

Back in England, Solihull and Hereford 6th form College go head to head, two sides that have had some wonderful moments this year. Along the road, Bishop Vesey’s Grammar welcome Old Swinford Hospital, another top fixture. In the South West Plymouth College and Truro College go head to head in a Devon/Cornwall derby.

 

Over in the South East Whitgift and Henley College will meet, Whitgift are coming off the back of a strong performance at the weekend. Meanwhile Henley put out another side over at Reading Blue Coat. Wallington County Grammar welcome St Andrew’s, while Tiffin look to bounce back from a narrow defeat to Hampton as they host Saint Cecilia’s. Box Hill meanwhile welcome Glyn’s 3rd XV.

 

In the North West Bolton welcome The Grange, while in Yorkshire Hymers College host Hill House, meanwhile Ripon Grammar’s U18s host Durham’s U17s.

 

Wednesday is a busy day for U17 rugby, particularly in the North East where Dame Allan’s host RGS Newcastle and Gosforth Academy welcome Barnard Castle, Yorkshire meanwhile sees Harrogate Grammar School and Woodhouse Grove go head to head.

 

Across in the North West Kirkham Grammar School host Runshaw College, while Merchant Taylors’ welcome St Anselm’s College. Wirral Grammar meanwhile welcome Welshmen Rydal Penrhos.

 

There is just the one U17 fixture in the South East on Wednesday, with Gordon’s welcoming Hayes to their superb 4G surface in Surrey.

Thursday

 

Thursday sees Brighton College seek to build on their fantastic start to the term on Saturday, they host Ravens Wood, who gave a good account of themselves over the weekend too. Meanwhile along the road at Hurstpierpoint College there is U17 action as they welcome St John’s Leatherhead.

 

Further North there is U18 County Cup action as Ratcliffe College host Ashby Grammar in the semi finals.

 

There is also a bit of 7s on Thursday as Eton College host Dulwich College and John Fisher from South East London as well as local rivals Windsor Boys’ School.
