Schools Rugby: Midweek Preview | 31st January – 1st February

Another big few days of school rugby lies ahead, with more and more sevens taking place alongside the remaining fifteen-a-side games.

 

There is also a lot of U17 action this week, with schools keen to ensure as many players as possible get experience in the shirt.

 

Wednesday

 

As always, Wednesday is busy, and busy with plenty of 7s – not least in the North West where Wirral Grammar School host a 7s competition that will see the likes of Altrincham Grammar, Shrewsbury, Wrekin College, Yorkshire’s Bradford Grammar, and Wales’ Rydal Penrhos all competing in what should be a great afternoon of rugby.

 

Further South Princethorpe College host a triangular that sees King’s Worcester and Solihull, two top quality sides, coming to visit. Meanwhile even further south City of London Freemen’s host a triangular of their own, with Reigate Grammar and St Andrew’s the visiting sides.

 

There is fifteen-a-side in the South East too, with Glyn hosting Reed’s in what should be a cracking game, while John Fisher and Ravens Wood also meet in a game that will be worth keeping a close eye on. Elsewhere Oakwood Park host Dover Grammar, with Wilson’s welcoming Riddlesdown Collegiate.

 

Tiffin have been playing well and will host Saints Cecilia’s, while not too far away Teddington will host St Richard Reynolds. Meanwhile there is an exciting looking game in Reading as Reading Blue Coat host Bishop Wand, the London & South Central ACE side, while elsewhere Richard Collyer host Farnborough 6th form College.

 

There are some big games in the South West too, including a massive game as St Peter’s Gloucester host Hereford 6th form College, and in Devon Ivybridge host Plymouth College.

 

Further North Bablake and KES Aston go head to head, while KES Camp Hill host Queen Mary’s Grammar School. There is also County Cup action in Stoke as St Joseph’s College host Newcastle-Under-Lyme in the semi finals.

 

Futher north still, Manchester Grammar host Runshaw College, while over in Yorkshire Hill House host Mount St Mary’s College, who have been in superb form of late, including winning the Pocklington 10s over the weekend.

 

As mentioned, there is a huge amount of U17 action this week too, and staying in the north of the country there are some crackers, not least King’s Macclesfield v Kirkham Grammar, while further east Dame Allan’s U17s host Durham’s U17s, and RGS Newcastle’s U17s travel south to Yorkshire to take on Harrogate Grammar, and Woodhouse Grove’s U17s head to Wath U17s.

 

In the South of the countyr Brighton College’s U17s host Henley College’s U17s, while Gordon’s u17s are at Bishop Wordsworth’s U17s and there is a cracker in the South West as Beechen Cliff host Ivybridge Community College.

Thursday

 

Thursday is not packed with action but what there is should be good, not least in Bedford where there is an exciting 7s triangular between Bedford School, Haileybury, and Northampton School for Boys, three top quality outfits.

 

On the fifteen-a-side front, Ratcliffe College will welcome Ashby Grammar School for the only U18 full-sided game of the day.
