This Sunday Gordon’s host their annual U16 Invitational 7s tournament, a key staging post on the road to the Rosslyn Park National School 7s for many.
Twenty teams will gather in Surrey, and every game on the main Bradwell 3G pitch will be LIVE here on NextGenXV through the NextGenXV YouTube Channel and through the embedded video below.
It is set to be a high quality and intense competition, with the action beginning at 9.15am on Sunday and finishing up with the final at 2.10pm, it is a short and sharp day of U16 7s.
The sides are split into four pools of five teams each, with the winners of each pool heading to the Cup semi finals, second place to the Plate semi finals, third place to the Bowl semi finals, fourth place to the Shield semi finals, while those finishing in fifth will see their competition end in the lunch break.
Last year’s tournament was an epic, won in the end by Tonbridge, who find themselves in Pool 1 as a result of that status as they aim to go back to back. Alongside them in Pool 1 are the hosts, Gordon’s, who are still looking to pick up their first silverware at their home tournament. Also in the pool are Framlingham College from Suffolk, as well as Shiplake College, and a Hurstpierpoint College side whose U18s are hosting a tournament of their own at the same time.
Over in Pool 2 are 2018 Bowl winners Worth, and it looks like a supremely competitive Pool, including a strong Brighton College side, an excellent Bishop Wordsworth’s side, local rivals of Gordon’s, St George’s Weybridge, and a good Mill House team as well.
Pool 3 is stacked, featuring 2023 Plate winners Wellington College and 2022 Cup winners Ipswich, two heavyweights going head to head LIVE at 11.15am. Also in the pool are Eton College, an excellent side, and the ever-strong Sherborne, with Ipswich’s Suffolk rivals and rising stars Finborough completing the group.
Pool 4 meanwhile includes 2018 champions The Oratory as well and last year’s Bowl winners, Seaford College. Two sides that will surely compete well again this Sunday. Alongside them are a good Maidstone Grammar School outfit, and a Dulwich College side that will have high ambitions for their day in Surrey.
Overall it should be an outstanding day of 7s, one of the real highlights on the U16 calendar and a tournament that has grown and grown since its inception since 2018. With 13 live games over the course of the day, including three knockout games, it’s not one to be missed!
