School 7s: Wycliffe College 7s | Brief Preview

Thursday see the Wycliffe College 7s take place, another big step on the road towards the West of England 7s and the Rosslyn Park National School 7s.

Ten teams will be in action at Wycliffe on Thursday afternoon in what is a short an sharp tournament. The teams are split into two pools of five teams each, with the winners going straight to the Cup final and second place going straight to the Plate final, much as in last week’s Hampton School Founders’ Day 7s.

Hosts Wycliffe College are in a competitive Group 1, with a very strong Kingswood side looking like the side to watch after their outstanding performances on the fifteen-a-side field this season. Alongside those two are an excellent Downside VII, alongside two of Bristol’s finest; Bristol Grammar School and Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital.

Over in Group 2 are the side crowned Collegiate School 7s champions on Sunday, Dean Close. They face real competition, with the likes of Cheltenham College set to challenge them intensely. So too Westonbirt and an excellent KES Bath side, as well as a Prior Park College side that are going to be absolutely itching to get going having had to cancel their own 7s tournament over the weekend.

All in all it will be a cracking tournament, the last one in February before the key tests to follow in March.

Wycliffe 7s Draw:

Group 1: Bristol GS, Downside, Kingswood, QEH, Wycliffe College

Group 2: Cheltenham College, Dean Close, KES Bath, Prior Park College, Westonbirt
