Tuesday sees the Leicester Grammar School 7s take place, a final hit-out before next week’s Howden Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s.

Ten schools will take part in the competition, running for its second year in the slot, a rise from eight schools last year.

Five of last year’s sides return, Loughborough Grammar, Stamford, King’s Grantham, Samuel Whitbread Academy, and hosts Leicester Grammar School.

Joining them this year are Bablake, Princethorpe College, Queen Ethelburga’s, Wisbech Grammar, and Oakham, who were competing in the Continental Tyres U18 Schools Cup final at this time last year.

Oakham will be one of the favourites and are in Group Blue, the two groups are labelled Blue and Yellow, alongside the hosts Leicester Grammar School, Bablake, Princethorpe College, and Samuel Whitbread Academy, who will likely be challengers as well.

Over in the Yellow Group are Stamford, who have to be considered among the favourites as well, particularly after such a successful 7s season to date. They will be joined by Wisbech Grammar School, King’s Grantham, Queen Elthelburga’s, and a strong Loughborough Grammar School side.

All in all it should be a strong final outing ahead of next week’s Howden Rosslyn Park National Schools 7s, a tournament where real momentum could be built.
