RFU ACE Girls League: Round 2 Review | City of Oxford earn first victory

In a big second round of action in the RFU Girls ACE League on Wednesday, four sides made it two from two in what was a much more competitive round of action.

Two games were decided by a converted try or fewer, City of Oxford College picked up their first victory, and Worthing College continue to look like early pace setters.

ACE Girls League Round 2 Results: Wednesday 2nd October

Bishop Burton College 5-63 Worthing College

Newman College 10-50 Hartpury College

Oaklands College 7-21 Exeter College

SGS College 24-27 City of Oxford College

Henley College 24-31 Loughborough College

Worthing College were on the road at Bishop Burton College, their biggest away trip of the campaign but they made that journey look like no trouble at all as they secured an outstanding 63-5 victory. They are flying early on in this campaign.

It was City of Oxford College that Worthing were so impressive against last week, but this week City of Oxford were on the road at SGS College, who gave Hartpury a good game last week, and returned home with the victory. It was a cracking game that could have gone either way, COO just edging it 27-24 – a game that shows real promise for both sides for the week ahead.

Hartpury College meanwhile made it two from two, expanding on their performance against SGS with a fantastic display on the road at Newman College for a 50-10 victory as the Girls in red hit peak form.

Also making it two from two were Exeter College, they travelled to Oaklands College, who had also won last week, and the two had a cracking battle. Exeter took it three scores to one for a 21-7 victory, but both will have taken plenty from it.

One of the games of the day came at Henley College, with Loughborough College the visitors. Loughborough had been outstanding against Newman College last week, while Henley had performed well in a close defeat to Oaklands. On Wednesday they played out an absolute cracker of a game. Both had their chances, but it was Loughborough College that came away with the victory, 31-24 to make it two wins from two to start the campaign.
