As the storms raged over the weekend, plenty was lost to the weather, but there was also plenty that still went ahead, with some wonderful performances around the country.
There was action across Friday and Saturday, though sadly Sunday’s Live Seaford Southern Tens was lost to the weather, with a number of teams having to travel through the worst of the weather and the pitches taking a battering.
Friday 24th January
A good chunk of Friday’s action is yet to be confirmed, though what has been logged was an excellent game just off the A3 as St John’s Leatherhead hosted St George’s Weybridge. St John’s played well and scored well too, but they couldn’t stop a St George’s side that was in excellent form for a 40-24 victory.
Friday Results
St John’s, Leatherhead 24-40 St George’s College, Weybridge
Saturday 25th January
Saturday meanwhile saw some truly excellent performances, perhaps none more so that in South East London, where Brighton College travelled to John Fisher and put in a sparkling display for a 55-0 victory. On the other side of London, Merchant Taylors’ were magnificent as well, winning 41-15 at home to Latymer Upper.
Further North, there was a thrilling draw in Northampton as St George’s Harpenden travelled to take on Northampton School for Boys’ U17 side. Both chucked everything at it, but couldn’t be separated as they finished in a 12-12 draw.
Like NSB, Warwick had plenty missing due to Academy commitments, but that did not stop them travelling to Sir Thomas Rich’s as their Continental Tyres U18 Schools Cup semi final preparations continue. They gave it a fantastic go too, but the hosts just had a little bit too much, putting in a strong performance to win 22-17.
The North West was one of the worst hit areas by the storms, but plenty of rugby managed to go ahead, and Bolton will be delighted that it did after a brilliant 47-0 victory over Altrincham Grammar.
Things were closer at King’s Macclesfield where the excellent St Anselm’s College eventually won out 20-10, a fine away performance, but the game of the day in the area was surely at Manchester Grammar School where Birkenhead won an epic contest 32-27, one for the memory banks.
Lancaster RGS enjoyed a strong Saturday too, putting in a strong performance to defeat a St Ambrose College side that was shown of a couple of backline dazzlers due to Sale Sharks commitments. LRGS were missing a couple too though and were excellent for a 33-12 victory. Over in Shropshire, meanwhile, there was a really tight one as Liverpool College just edged out their hosts, Oswestry, 8-5.
