Garsfontein’s Pack Crushes Jeppe on Collard Field
Garsfontein’s formidable forward unit stamped their authority early in the season with a commanding 26-18 victory over Jeppe in Johannesburg. Their scrum dominance and devastating rolling mauls paved the way for three of their four tries, with hooker Justin Blom crashing over from a powerful drive.
Tighthead prop Luan van den Bergh anchored the set-piece battle, while locks JJ Fourie and Wihan Bezuidenhout showcased their mobility in open play. Bezuidenhout’s barnstorming 50-meter run, slicing through the midfield to dot down under the sticks, was the highlight of the contest.
Jeppe, however, was not without resistance. Blindside flanker Grady Ngui was a defensive rock, while winger Joel Akilo capitalized on a pinpoint kick from flyhalf Nehemia Hollenbach to score. Hollenbach added a conversion and two long-range penalties to keep the hosts in the fight, but Garsfontein’s superior forward play proved decisive.
Helpmekaar Edges Michaelhouse in Tight Contest
A composed Helpmekaar side held off a spirited Michaelhouse challenge to claim a hard-fought 17-10 win. With clinical handling in broken play and superior tactical execution, Helpmekaar took control in the latter stages.
Flyhalf Stefan Moolman orchestrated proceedings with his kicking game, converting an early penalty before sending Francois Tonkin over for the opening try. Michaelhouse struck back through fullback Alex Jankowitz, whose impressive finish in the left corner was one of the game’s standout moments.
Helpmekaar’s defensive resilience, led by centre Clinton Cloete’s 16-tackle effort, kept Michaelhouse at bay. Ty Ax sealed the win with a decisive second-half try, capping off a disciplined performance that bodes well for the season ahead.

Bastiaanse was unplayable on the counterattack, punishing any loose kicks with scything runs that saw him cross the whitewash three times. His flawless goal-kicking also kept the scoreboard ticking, converting six of Waterkloof’s seven tries.
Ben Vorster, to their credit, refused to roll over. Flanker Joshua van der Mescht was immense in defence, while No. 8 Tumi Ramohale troubled the opposition with his pace and power out wide. Despite their valiant effort, Waterkloof’s clinical finishing ensured they emerged victorious.

Captain and flyhalf Ruben Groenewald controlled the game masterfully, using his tactical kicking to keep Diamantveld pinned in their own half. Centre Divan Fourie was a menace in midfield, consistently breaching the defensive line with his powerful carries.
Diamantveld, however, had their moments. Jonathan Harding’s dazzling footwork set up a sensational solo try, while replacement Ezlin Swartz injected energy late on. Yet, Affies’ clinical edge in key moments saw them continue their winning streak.
