A round that promised much and delivered in spades. Let’s not waste any time and get stuck into these results as we edge ever closer to the playoffs. Here are all the results from round 6, as the tides continue to turn at the top of the table.
Round 6 – Wednesday 19th November
Bishop Burton 26-33 Oaklands College
Burton remain down the bottom of the table, winless after six games, but clearly progressing towards that first victory, with a strong performance against a very good Oaklands side. Plenty of points on offer here, and Burton are good value for their losing bonus point, but they will wonder if it could have been more. Oaklands can take all the points home with them and secure their spot in mid-table.
City of Oxford 49-31 Newman College
A similar game here, as Newman, towards the bottom end of the ACE League, took on a solid mid-table side with aspirations of pushing on, in the Activate Academy. There was a similar result here, too, as Newman put in a great performance, but just did not have enough to hold off an Oxford side stacked with talent. Oxford, on 18 points, are only a few off 3rd, and a good run of form could shoot them up the table!
Henley College – Hartpury College – Win for Hartpury
Hartpury have not published the full-time result to go along with this game, which would imply that the results was rather one-sided, as one might have expected with the bottom of the table Henley taking on the mighty Acorns. Hartpury cannot afford many more slip-ups, as Exeter continue in great form.
Loughborough 25-27 Exeter College
The headline game of the round was just as thrilling as we expected. Exeter, the defending champions, had to face off against the only side to match up to Hartpury this year, in Loughborough. In the end, just a single conversion separated the two teams. There is still the small matter of Worthing left for Exeter to overcome, and Hartpury themselves are back to their best, but Exeter are playing who’s in front of them, round by round, and getting the results they need!
SGS College 0-45 Worthing
The only other perfect record across the ACE Leagues is held by Worthing, who were again unchallenged this week away in Bristol. Struggling against a side like the Harlequins backed Wothing is no shame, as they have been unbelievable all year. This result took them over the 200 mark for points scored in a season, and they have a few weeks to prepare before the visit of Hartpury, in a massive clash in round 7, on the 10th of December.
