This week is a huge week as the Continental Tyres Schools Cup second round gets underway in earnest.
It is also the second round of the Continental Tyres Schools Vase, while the Plate and Bowl also get underway with their respective opening rounds – teams in the Plate were knocked out in Round 1 of the Cup, those in the Bowl were knocked out of the opening round of the Vase.
It’s not just the knockout competitions that have action either, there is a huge amount of action elsewhere, including on Thursday at Clifton RFC, where Clifton College will be hosting Kingswood in their annual Ryan Bresnahan Memorial game, raising awareness and funding for Meningitis B through the A Life for a Cure charity, set up by Ryan’s family.

Elsewhere the action is packed out, it is one of the busiest weeks of the season!

There is bags of action this week, including a couple of catch up fixtures in Midlands A, where Trent College host former champions Oakham on Wednesday, then on Saturday Rugby travel to Oundle. Last year’s finalists, Kirkham Grammar, are in action on Wednesday at home to Scarisbrick Hall, while North B sees Cup legends QEGS Wakefield heading to Grammar School at Leeds on Wednesday.
Back in Midlands A look out for a clash of former champions as Warwick host Bromsgrove, the two met on the opening weekend with Bromsgrove edging the tightest of games 6-3. Over in Midlands B Northampton School for Boys have become one of the great Cup teams and they will look to show that away for The Perse on Wednesday.
Reigning champions Harrow aren’t in action against Mill Hill until next week, but former winners Campion are in London & South East A action on Thursday, hosting Haileybury in a fantastic matchup. Over in London & South East B the section is littered with former champions, Trinity get us underway on Wednesday at local rivals John Fisher, before Dulwich College host Whitgift next week, those two have 6 titles between them.
Nobody has more titles than Collegiate though, they head to Kingswood next week, but on Wednesday in South West A look out for the Taunton derby, King’s College Taunton host Taunton School, who knocked out Millfield in the last round. South West B has some crackers, among them on Wednesday RGS High Wycombe hosting St Edward’s Oxford.

There are some great games this week, Tuesday sees St Benedict’s host Chilean tourists Craighouse, while on Wednesday these is an abundance of action. Among it, a tournament at Ashville Harrogate featuring the likes of Bradford Grammar, Giggleswick, Hill House, Hymers College, Mount St Mary’s, Pocklington, Prince Henry’s Grammar, and Silcoates.
Arguably the big game of the day though is the Border Shield, the annual Malvern College vs Monmouth fixture. The two sides are located just the other side of the Welsh/English border to one another and their annual game is one of the greats in the school game. Expect a massive crowd, huge atmosphere, no little skill, and plenty of drama.
Thursday then sees some huge games, chief among them our LIVE game between Clifton College and Kingswood. Also in action are Cheltenham College, who host Marlborough College, while Eton College and Berkhamsted also meet in what should be an interesting game after positive results for both last week.
Keep an eye out too, among the many other games, for Bedford hosting Bloxham and KES Bath welcoming King’s Bruton, KES have been absolutely superb so far this season.
