Wednesday was a huge day of RFU ACE Boys League action as the tables begin to take shape as the mid-point of the first phase approaches.
In both the North and South Pool there were some huge performances and some crucial results that will almost certainly have a huge bearing on the way the rest of the season unfolds.
RFU ACE Boys League Round 3 Results: Wednesday 25th September
North
Brooksby Melton College 35-43 Gosforth Academy
City of Oxford College v Oaklands College – Postponed
Moulton College 5-54 Bishop Burton College
Stourport High 21-0 Myerscough College
Gosforth Academy continue to look superb, and they had to be on Wednesday at Brooksby Melton College because the Leicester Tigers outfit were outstanding. Brooksby threw everything at Gosforth en route to 35 points, but the north eastern side were equal to it, scoring 43 of their own for a bonus point win that keeps them at the top of the table.
Just a point behind them are Stourport High School, who also made it three from three with an excellent 21-0 victory at home to Myerscough College. It was another tricky outing for Myerscough but they will be pleased to have denied Stourport the bonus, but riding as high as they ever have in the ACE league will have Stourport feeling very happy.
Also feeling happy are Bishop Burton College, who lie in third after a terrific 54-5 victory away at Moulton College. The Yorkshire side are looking good, while it has been a struggle for Moulton College early on but they will know that the first ACE season is tough but the sides can flourish.
Sadly City of Oxford College vs Oaklands College was postponed.
South
Beechen Cliff 43-8 Truro College
Exeter College 14-35 Gordon’s
Hartpury College 7-8 SGS College
Newman College 0-33 Bishop Wand
The story of the day came at Hartpury College where the reigning champions were defeated for the second time in three games, an almost unthinkable stat. SGS College were the victors, their first ever victory at Hartpury, it was the tightest of games, the final ten minutes was on a knife edge, but SGS pulled through, 8-7, to rise to fourth in the table with their second victory of the campaign.
Still sitting pretty at the top are Gordon’s, who were again outstanding in a 35-14 victory at Exeter College, their third bonus point victory of the season. The Surrey side are looking absolutely brilliant at the moment.
As are Beechen Cliff, the other side to beat Hartpury, they sit just a point behind Gordon’s in second place after a terrific 43-8 home victory over Truro College. That top of the table clash next week is look mouth-watering.
Bishop Wand are also looking good, they bounced back from defeat to Gordon’s with a brilliant performance at Newman College on Wednesday, winning 33-0 to stay in third. It was another tough one for Newman, but they must be able to sense the improvement as they make life harder and harder for their opponents.
