ABOUT

The Craven Week is an annual state tournament organized for high school rugby players in South Africa. The tournament started in 1964 and was named after the legendary Springbok player and administrator Doctor Danie Craven. The tournament was conceived by Piet Malan who was a Springbok flanker at the time, his wish was for schools to feature in the SARU 75th anniversary celebration and approached Doc Craven on how it could be done.Craven discussed the idea with his board who then decided to get the various school unions involved for a week.Since 1971 an “unofficial” winner has been declared and since 1974 a South African schools team has been named after the tournament has finished.
