In what is fast becoming one the most memorable U18 Daily Mail Cup’s in recent times, two more sides confirmed their places in the quarter finals yesterday.

With Warwick, Sherborne, Hampton and Wilmslow already through, the pressure was on for Truro School, RGS High Wycombe, King’s Worcester and Northampton School for Boys to join them.

The action began with a lunchtime kick off in Truro, with Truro School hosting RGS High Wycombe for a quarter final tie at home to Hampton.

RGS went into the game as favourites, they have one of the best Daily Mail Cup records of all, most recently with their Under 15’s reaching the final last year and winning it the year before.

Truro are building quite the cup pedigree of their own though and after reaching the last 16 in 2012 they were determined to go one better this year.

That determination plus a suspicion for jadedness in the RGS ranks following the mammoth trip to the South West, combined with some outstanding and passionate Truro play saw the hosts run out 20-10 victors.

That game was swiftly followed by King’s School Worcester playing host to Northampton School for Boys.

Worcester went into the game in top form, having beaten their great rivals RGS Worcester and last year’s runners up, Old Swinford Hospital, on their run to the last 16.

Northampton though have been in fine form too, surprising a few with the accuracy and pace of their game, making them one of the best sides in the competition to watch.

Victory against Oakham in the last round was when they really started to turn heads, and they showed just why again yesterday. In tricky conditions they edged the game 10-8  to earn themselves an away quarter final against either King’s Macclesfield of Wirral Grammar School.

Those two play on Saturday as do KCS Wimbledon and cup holders Duwlich College. Weather permitting the full quarter final line up should be known by Saturday evening.
