U18 Academy League Returns! Preview, Fixtures, & Team News

The Aviva Premiership Under 18 League kicks off again this weekend after a break of just under two months since the first round during the half term break.

Twelve of the fourteen teams are in action in the League this weekend, with Saracens and Northampton Saints both having an extra week to prepare before they kick off again next week, though Northampton to have a friendly against St Joseph’s College these evening, who included several Saints EPDG players themselves.

It all kicks off tomorrow with Exeter Chiefs v Bristol, Exeter started with a flyer against Bath last time out and will be looking to build on that fine start. Bath aim to recover with a home game against Harlequins tomorrow afternoon.

Kicking off before them are Gloucester, who beat Newcastle Falcons in the 1st Round, and Leeds Carnegie. The game will be played at Cheltenham College so young starlet Ollie Thornley will be on his home turf.

Leicester Tigers take on Worcester Warriors at Welfrord Road at midday tomorrow. Tigers topped the Northern Conference with an unbeaten season last year and got off to a perfect start this year with a 36-10 win over Sale back in October. Worcester’s season got off to the worst possible start though with a 46-0 loss to Northampton.

On Sunday Newcastle Falcons and Sale Sharks both look to bounce back from their defeats on the opening weekend, while on Monday evening London Wasps host London Irish for Wasps’ first fixture of the season.

The League carries on next weekend too and then there is a break the following week before fixtures in each of the first three weeks of January. There is then a two week break before the final round of fixtures on the 7th/8th February.
