It has been an exciting midweek of rugby so far, and there is still plenty to come, with evening kick offs both tonight and tomorrow.
On Tuesday Fifteen Rugby visited Hurstpierpoint, where Seaford really turned on the style and showed how important it is to score when you are on top as they beat their hosts 56-8, you can see our match report here – Hurstpierpoint v Seaford. At the same time Leicester Grammar School continued their good season with a 29-10 victory over Wellingborough.
On Wednesday much of the focus surrounded Millfield v Wellington College, again Fifteen Rugby were at the game and it was a pleasure to be at as Wellington turned in on e of the great schoolboy performances to win 41-27 – that report can be seen here – Wellington v Millfield.
That was not the only monster game though, up in the North West King’s Macclesfield were hosting Sedbergh. Sedbergh ran out 39-10, and Colin Barton, who was at the game and described Sedbergh as having had a very strong start before King’s pegged them back to 10-10, however a Moorby try and a penalty from man of the match McPhillips gave them an 18-10 half time lead.
McPhillips then really excelled, alongside the Sebergh pack, in the second half, rounding off the game and his own performance with a ‘superb’ solo try, giving Sedbergh a 39-10 victory.
Wednesday also saw Truro School beat Colston’s 27-20, and KE Aston defeat Old Swinford Hospital 38-10, while Stockport Grammar beat Cheadle Hulme 26-21.
This week has also seen some NatWest Cup action, UCS beat Mill Hill 18-0 on Tuesday, while yesterday Ampleforth College were surprisingly knocked out by Worksop 14-5.
St Joseph’s College also kicked off their campaign, winning 57-8 against Brentwood, another strong victory in a season of strong victories for the Suffolk side.
This evening Hampton take on South African tourists Reitz High School, while tomorrow evening KCS Wimbledon take on Tiffin at KCS Old Boys club, and Caterham’s fixture against Colfe’s has aslo been moved to Friday under the lights.
