Schools Rugby Midweek Preview & Predictions

It is a slightly quieter midweek of school rugby than usual this week, though there are still a few truly eye catching games.

The big highlight of the week is likely to be St Benedict’s v Whitgift in the NatWest Cup. Their fixture was scheduled to take place back on Saturday but frozen pitches saw it postponed until Wednesday.

It ought to be a great match up between two top quality sides, and with the incentive of a last 16 place as the prize, it will likely be a tense affair. All the other last 16 teams have been decided and the two teams know that St Joseph’s College, runners up at the St Joseph’s Festival, will be their opponents in the final regional stage ahead of next week’s quarter final draw.

Also taking place in the Cup is an exciting tie between Oundle, one of the potential dark horses for this year’s competition, and King’s Worcester – a team with a fine schools rugby reputation. Oundle host the game on their excellent closed in 1st XV pitch, which ought to bring them plenty of support in what should be an exciting game of rugby.

There are also a few NatWest Vase ties as that competition warms up, Bishop Heber v Cheadle Hulme, Chosen Hill v Churcher’s, and Sheldon v King Edward VI, Southampton.

Another fixture that particularly stands out, though not a Cup game, is RGS High Wycombe v Solihull. Both sides are capable of some excellent rugby, and while Solihull will be favourites, it will likely be an exciting game of rugby.

Meanwhile this afternoon Leicester Grammar School host Ratcliffe College.
