Opening weekend results roundup – Wins for Sedbergh, Wellington, Warwick

The results are coming in for the opening weekend of the 2015/16 school rugby season, with some outstanding performances on show around the country.

Probably the standout game of the day was Sedbergh v Whitgift, a game that Whitgift won last year.

Sedbergh sealed the honours this time though, winning 31-17 to make an early statement of their prowess this season.

Abingdon won the Oxford derby, beating St Edward’s 28-8, making a strong early season statement.

Epsom College secured a solid victory over Tonbridge, winning 19-10, while last season’s Daily Mail Trophy Champions, Wellington College, got off to a superb start, beating RGS High Wycombe 34-13.

Warwick, one of our picks to star this season, secured an excellent, if tight and tense, 8-7 victory over Dulwich College.

Denstone College began in style, beating Oakham 43-13, as did Berkhamsted with a 36-7 victory over Northampton School for Boys.

Some of the other standout results were a 35-0 St John’s Leatherhead, who look strong this year, victory over Cranbrook and a 48-0 win for Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar over Eltham College.

Sir Thomas Rich’s were in simply outstanding form, beating a Kingswood side who impressed last year by a stunning 67-0 margin.

Stamford were in equally good from, winning 62-0 over Princethorpe College.

More to follow.
