There has been some superb schools rugby this midweek and there is still more to come this evening.
The NatWest Cup had a few tidy up fixtures, and there were some outstanding Daily Mail Trophy games, adding up to an exciting few days of rugby despite there being fewer fixtures than in the past couple of weeks.
Wednesday
Arguably the biggest game of the day was King’s Macclesfield v Sedbergh. Two of the top sides on the circuit in recent times, so this game was hotly anticipated. Sedbergh went in as favourites, and so it proved as they picked up another high scoring win, 42-17, but King’s Macclesfield put up a strong fight for long periods.
Harrow v Berkhamsted was another mammoth fixture. Both sides arrived in superb form and so it proved as they played out a fiercely competitive fixture. Harrow took the win 15-12, and they look like a real contender to finish with a top 10 place in the Daily Mail Trophy.
Barnard Castle continued their superb form with a 21-10 win over Yarm, while Manchester Grammar put on a superb display to beat Rydal Penrhos 50-19. Pate’s were in similarly good form, beating QEH 42-19 and KES Birmingham beat Princethorpe 31-3.
In the NatWest Cup Wilmlsow High School and Bishop’s Stortford College secured huge victories, while RGS Newcastle picked up a very solid 24-7 victory over Dame Allan’s.
Thursday
Fifteen Rugby made the trip to Rutland to watch the derby game between Oakham and Oundle, and what a game it was as the two sides played out brilliantly intense game of rugby, which Oundle took 24-10. You can see our report here: Oakham v Oundle.
London Oratory picked up an excellent 34-0 win at Cardinal Caughan, while Dauntsey’s beat Sexey’s 16-14.
