The first Saturday of schools rugby of the New Year was decimated by the weather, with a huge number of games forced to be cancelled due to waterlogged pitches.
Some of the very biggest games of the weekend, including Hampton v St Joseph’s College, Hymers College v RGS Newcastle, Judd v RGS High Wycombe, and Kirkham v King’s Macclesfield.
The NatWest Cup tie between Stowe and Portsmouth Grammar School was also a victim of the weather, but will be rearranged for a later date.
There were plenty of games that did go ahead though, and there was plenty of excitement despite their low number.
Whitgift kept their good form up from last term, beating Ravens Wood 46-6 . St Benedict’s were also in flying for as they beat New Hall 38-7, their final home game of the season.
It was one for the purists between Dartford Grammar and Campion, with Dartford winning 3-0. It was far higher scoring for King Henry’s in Coventry though, they beat Repton 42-0.
Soligull and Bishop Vesey’s played out a very close and exciting game, with Solihull running out the winners, 23-19.
It was a good day for Wallington County Grammar and Manchester Grammar both enjoyed strong wins, 24-0 and 36-0 over Gravesend Grammar and Bolton School respectively.
Bablake also enjoyed a winning start to the term, 19-7 over John Cleveland College.
There are still a few results still to come in, Harrogate Grammar v QEGS Wakefield, Old Swinford Hospital v Warwick, and Tiffin v Glyn among them.
