This weekend marks the start of the school 7s season, but that does not mean that the fifteen-a-side action stops.
In fact, this is one of the busiest fifteen-a-side weekend’s of the season so far, with plenty of games set to take place – assuming, of course, that the weather holds out on us.
Plenty of sides who progressed through to the NatWest Cup quarter finals in midweek are back in action again at the weekend, with Warwick v RGS High Wycombe the most high profile clash of all.
Warwick surged into the quarter finals with a stunning 32-7 victory over last year’s semi finalists, Oundle. Meanwhile RGS showed great heart and determination to beat Stowe 14-0.
It suggest that this game will be a huge one, and to whet the appetite even further, with the quarter final draw being made on Friday at 12.15, it is not unlikely that these two could also be drawn together in the NatWest Cup. One way or another, there will be plenty at stake on Saturday.
Hampton also progressed with a stunning 46-0 win over Simon Langton, they are in action again on Saturday as they travel to Tiffin, where they will be looking for a strong win to keep that momentum up as they turn their heads towards the quarter finals.
QEGS Wakefield are also back in action fast after their 18-0 win over St Peter’s York, last year’s U15 champions host Hymers College on Saturday.
2012 finalists, Old Swinford Hospital, host Bishop Vesey’s, and there is another tough looking game between Wirral Grammar and King’s Macclesfield.
City of London Freemen’s head to Portsmouth Grammar, it is the South Coast side’s final fifteen-a-side match before their South Coast 7s tournament a week on Sunday.
New Hall v Campion looks a competitive fixture, as does St Benedict’s v London Oratory, St Benedict’s came out on top when they met in the Cup, will they again?John Fisher host Wallington County Grammar and St Ambrose College travel to Adams Grammar, while Calday Grange host Manchester Grammar.
One of the games of the day ought to be Brighton College v Reigate Grammar. Both a very strong sides, Reigate have been a real force this year and could surprise Brighton, though the south coast side have had some outstanding victories to their name this year.
Chislehurst and Sidcup welcome St Olave’s with KES Birmingham at Bablake and Dame Allan’s hosting Silcoates. Judd meanwhile face a Cooper’s Coborn side who beat Caterham in the Vase in midweek, while the ever strong RGS Lancaster make the trip to Merchant Taylors.
On Sunday the 7s season was set to begin with both the Colston’s & Millfield 7s, however the Colston’s 7s is now cancelled.
UPDATE – THE COLSTON’S 7s IS NOW CANCELLED
