ISRFC Lambs: Lambs announce 2017 tour destination

The ISRFC Lambs will tour Canada this season, and will be dipping into the USA for a couple of days too.

The tour will take place over Easter of 2017, so there is plenty of time for schoolboys up and down the country to impress between now and then.

The Lambs will depart London on Thursday 30th March, arriving back in the UK on Tuesday 11th April.

Whilst there they will play four games, culminating in a game against Canada U18 on Sunday 9th April in Victoria.

Before that, they face Caplilano RFC in Vancouver on Saturday 1st, before travelling to Seattle for a game against the Pacific Loggers on Monday 3rd April, followed by a game against a British Columbia Select XV back in Vancouver on Thursday 6th April.

Between all of the games (and the revision sessions that are built into each day on tour given the proximity to A Levels), the Lambs will take on a number of excursions, including a trip to the Space Needle, visiting Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain Zip Lining, a Whale Watching Cruise, and potentially a trip to see a Victoria Royals Ice Hockey match, among other things.

The Lambs have become one of the top features of the school season, with last year’s tour to South America a real highlight, as past tours to Ireland and Zimbabwe have been too.

Selection towards that ISRFC Lambs National Squad, which will be the one that tours, all begins towards the end of this term, with school coaches nominating players towards the end of November, and the first trials likely to be held in December.

From there various regional Lambs teams are selected, and these are whittled down to smaller regions, until eventually a Northern XV plays a Southern XV in January, from which the Lambs National Squad is selected.

That squad then plays a number of games in the UK before heading off on tour to round off their season.

Any player in the Upper 6th is eligible for nomination to the Lambs, provided that they are not part of an academy. They play what they describe as a ‘fast and free’ style of rugby, think of the Barbarians RFC and you have the basic concept.

It truly is one of the real highlights of the school season, and offers a superb opportunity for talented and exciting schools rugby players to show their talent that promotes good play over results and in an environment that really encourages traditional rugby values.

Here at Fifteen Rugby we will be keeping you up to speed with all of the ISRFC Lambs’ developments throughout the season.

As ever, it should be a great season of fast and free rugby from the Lambs!
