Wales U18 name squad for South Africa tour

Wales have named their squad for the annual U18 International series in South Africa this August.

 

Wales will join England, Italy, France, South Africa, and South Africa ‘A’, and will face both South Africa side plus one of the three other European sides. Fixtures will take place on the 11th, 15th, and 20th August.

 

The Welsh Rugby Union National Performance Manager, Gethin Watts, has selected a 25-man squad for the series, with four Welsh Exiles in the squad.

 

Bath’s Rhys Davies returns for a second year, the Millfield second for has been a significant player over the last two seasons. He is joined by Lymm High School’s Callum Morris, Gloucester’s Morgan Nelson, and Leicester Tigers’ Tommy Reffell.

 

Speaking to the Welsh Rugby Union website, Watts said:

 

Twenty-five players have been named in head coach Geraint Lewis’s Wales U18 squad for the annual tour to South Africa this August.

 

“One of our main objectives is to further expose our players to high-level opposition in one of the hotbeds of world rugby, selection has partly been based on succession planning for next year’s Wales U20 Six Nations squad, but our main objective is always long-term player development.”

Cardiff Blues: Alun Lawrence, Joe Miles, Ben Thomas, Ben Warren

Newport Gwent Dragons: Lennon Greggains, Will Griffiths, Tom Hoppe, James McCarthy, Josh Reynolds

Ospreys: Callum Carson, Cai Evans, Harri Morgan, Dylan Moss, Jordan Walters

Scarlets: Dan Davies, Rhys Davies, Lewis Ellis-Jones, Llyr Green, Morgan Jones, Tommi Lewis, Thomas Rogers.

WRU Exiles: Rhys Davies (Bath), Callum Morris (Lymm College), Morgan Nelson (Gloucester), Tommy Reffell (Leicester)
