Irish Exiles Regional Development Days – Could you play for Ireland?

Ireland will be holding two Regional Development Days in England this month as the Irish Exiles programme seeks to develop Irish qualified players in the country.

The Regional Development Days will be slit North and South, the North day will take place on Sunday 11th February at Leeds Beckett University, and the South days will be at Maidenhead RFC On Sunday 18th February.

The days are open to any players that did not attend the Regional Assessment Days in October and that were born in either 2001 or 2002.

The only other requirement is that a player was born in Ireland or has parents or grandparents that were born in Ireland.

To register, all you can to do is click on the following link and fill in the form: Irish Exiles Regional Development Day registration.

It is something that numerous professional players have done before, going through the Exiles programme and becoming fully fledged professionals and internationals.

The likes of former Epsom College and Sedbergh pupils Niall Saunders and Johnny McPhillips have both since gone on to represent Ireland at U20 level and are currently with Harlequins and Ulster respectively.

Former John Fisher star Kieran Treadwell, also at Ulster, is now a fully fledged international and like Munster’s Alex Wooten, Ciaran Parker, and Sam Arnold, as well as Connacht’s James Mitchell and Kieram Marmion.

Of course the assessment days and further programme are not just about producing internationals though, the aim is to develop and support those Irish qualified players, as well as to identify and promote those with the potential to go all the way.

These development days are about identifying those with the talent to go all the way but also about offering a high quality developmental opportunity for everyone that is involved. So no matter your level, every player will benefit.

So if you are Irish qualified and born in 2001 or 2001, just follow the link above and who knows, in a few years time you could be turning out in the Aviva Stadium in the green or Ireland , rubbing shoulders with British and Irish Lions legends.
