ISRFC Lambs: U16 National Squad named after trials at Uppingham

Following Sunday’s trials at Uppingham School, the ISRFC Lambs have named their U16 National Squad.

The Lambs have named a 35 man squad for their season ahead, which consists of three standalone fixtures plus a three-game tour in North Wales over Easter.

The squad is made up of players from twenty-two difference schools. Tonbridge are the most represented, with four players in the squad, Luc Bowkley, Hugo Cordeschi, Barnes Darlington, and William Rees-Young.

Both Harrow and King’s College Taunton have three players in the squad, Pierce O’Toole, Will Shankland, and Jim Griffin representing Harrow, and Joe Messenger, William Brooke-Webb, and Milo Blakey representing King’s. Six sides have two representatives, Uppingham, who hosted the trial, Millfield, Trinity, Wisbech Grammar School, New Hall, and Pangbourne College.

The squad can first be seen in action in Methyr, away to Boys Club of Wales on Sunday 18th February, which will be a double header with the Lambs’ U18 side’s fixture.

They are then in action at Sixways against the Worcester Warriors Academy on Thursday 1st March before they head to North Wales on tour from the 31st March to the 8th April. The tour will see them compete in a three game series against a Scotland U16 Representative XV, with fixtures on Sunday 1st April, Wednesday 4th April, and Sunday 8th April.

The U16 season will be rounded off on Sunday 22nd April with a fixture against the Gloucester Academy at Hartpury College, another double header with the Lambs’ U18 side.

Commenting on the squad, Lambs National Director Alex Laybourne said:

“This looks like a very exciting squad. The talent on show at the trial was fantastic and there was plenty of competition for places in the squad.”

“Ultimately we have gone for a group of boys that clearly showed ambition to play attacking rugby and who fit in our mould of playing fast and free. I am excited about seeing them play on the 18th February against the Boys Club of Wales.”
